Short introduction

Well, how to start – it would be best to start with the name. Fessy got from her breeder the name: Forever Free. She could not have been given a better name - this one completely expresses her character. The most important things in the earth are: fetching (especially a Frisbee and balls), she is always doing something – doesn’t matter what – if nothing else, catching whatever is around is also a good activity (catching flies, snow flakes, dust…).

And why a border collie? It simply happened – we had a Maltese Christopher, but we unfortunately lost him when he was ten years old – too soon and completely unexpectedly. We – my husband Tomas and I – decided not to buy another dog immediately, but to spend some time without a dog – but it did not work at all. Home without a dog is not a home and Christopher’s loss was even worse without having another dog rascal, who would make us to change our thoughts. So, Tomas told me one day, that we must change it and that we should start slowly searching for our new dog. That was what I had been waiting for and already knew that there was a border collie kennel, from which I wanted to have a dog – a bitch to be accurate. The reasons why I chose a border collie were the following: it is a natural breed, the right size, hairy the right length of hair, not very hard to take care of, clever, quick to learn, a dog which you can take with you wherever you go – for whole day trip to the country and after you return you can just clean the paws and that’s it.

So I immediately phoned the Black Chevers kennel which is in Zlín and the breeder told me, that all the puppies from E litter – which I was interested in – have already gone to the new homes and puppies from F litter were all spoken for already, but one of them was not definitely spoken for, which meant that the same day the potential owner had to say yes, or no – the decision had to be made by 10 o’clock in the evening. My immediate reaction was: If she said no, I would definitely say YES (even if Tomas thought that I would just be picking up information and in approximately 3 – 4 months time we would go to see some puppies J). So when Tomas heard me saying on the phone that we will take the puppy – he nearly collapsed – but he did not and one week later we went to see the puppy and one month later we took Fessy home.

Fessy is a brilliant border collie bitch with a perfect character and as I have already mentioned at the beginning, she loves all types of activity. That is why we started as a puppy to train her in obedience, later we also started to train her in flyball because it is an activity with a ball and running, both of which Fessy loves the most. You can see the details and information about Sport and Show results in the particular sections of these web pages.

TO BE ACCURATE ABOUT FESSY´S DESCRIPTION, PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING INFO:

Her unique markings:

-          black spot on white chin

-          black spot on navel

-          right front leg black – left front leg white

-          white buttocks (white hair on her buttocks – allowed by a breed standard)

Her specialties:

- it seems she is the only border collie, who does not want to give the fetched things over (she fetches very well, all the time – but when we want to take back what she brought, she always moves it away and enjoys a fact that we can’t get it from her.)

- she is hunts fingers when you tap on a floor, or somewhere else – she jumps up and stamps on and catches the fingers, she is very funny when doing this

-    sometimes she likes gardening (as a puppy very often in flowerpots – grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

-     she does not want to swim – even if her dog friends are playing in the water, jumping into it, she is not interested in this kind of play

-    she’s been car sick since she was a puppy (fortunately, it is improving, but her first journey from Zlín to Prague was a horrible experience)

-     she never, really never, climbs on the table :-))))))))))

Her biggest positives:

I say biggest positives, because if I were to tell you about all her positives, the article would have no end. She loves people, even more than dogs. She is able to show you how much she loves you – you only have to be careful not to lose your teeth as she is a little bit hot headed when showing you how much she loves you. She is very kind and careful when playing with smaller dogs and puppies. She is always willing to participate in whatever activity – so she goes to hang clothes with me, she cooks with me in the kitchen, she comes to check on me in the bathroom…. she is simply the best dog friend I can have.

Finally I would like to mention that, although we had some reservations about choosing such a lively dog as a border collie, today I can certainly say that it was the best choice we could have made. Fessy gives us a lot of love and thanks to her we have a lot of new friends with the same interest – border collies. We attend a lot of dog shows, tournaments, training etc., which not only our dogs like, but also we have big fun there.
